Non-linear evolution and parton distributions at LHC and THERA energies
نویسنده
چکیده
We suggest a new procedure for extrapolating the parton distributions from HERA energies to higher energies at THERA and LHC. The procedure suggested consists of two steps: first, we solve the non-linear evolution equation which includes the higher twists contributions, however this equation is deficient due to the low (log(1/x)) accuracy of our calculations. Second, we introduce a correcting function for which we write a DGLAP type linear evolution equation. We show that this correcting function is small in the whole kinematic region and decreases at low x. The nonlinear evolution equation is solved numerically and first estimates for the saturation scale, as well as for the value of the gluon density at THERA and LHC energies are made. We show that non-linear effects lead to damping of the gluon density by a factor of 2÷ 3 at x ≈ 10−7. Non-linear Evolution and Parton Distributions at Low X
We suggest a new procedure for extrapolating the parton distributions from HERA to much higher energies. The procedure suggested consists of two steps. First, we solve the non-linear evolution equation. Second, we introduce a correcting function for which we write a DGLAP-type linear evolution equation. The nonlinear equation is solved numerically and estimates for the saturation scale, as well...
متن کاملSaturation Effects in Diffractive Scattering at Lhc Energies
Unitarization schemes can be reduced to non-linear equations which saturate at small b the evolution of the elastic amplitude with s, and which mimic parton saturation in the non-perturbative regime. These equations enable us to study the effect of saturation on total and elastic cross sections for various models, and to evaluate the uncertainties on σtot and ρ(s, t) at the LHC in the presence ...
متن کاملFrom HERA to LHC through the Color Glass Condensate
A classical effective field theory, the Color Glass Condensate (CGC), provides a unified treatment of high parton density effects in both DIS and hadronhadron collisions at very high energies. The validity and limitations of k⊥ factorization can be studied in this effective theory. Multi-parton correlations in the effective theory are described by universal dipole and multipole operators. The e...
متن کاملParton Distributions and the LHC: W and Z Production
W and Z bosons will be produced copiously at the LHC proton-proton collider. We study the parton distribution dependence of the total production cross sections and rapidity distributions, paying particular attention to the uncertainties arising from uncertainties in the parton distributions themselves. Variations in the gluon, the strong coupling, the sea quarks and the overall normalisation ar...
متن کاملHeavy Quark Production and Non-linear Gluon Evolution at the Lhc
We investigate the importance of unitarity corrections to parton evolution in heavy flavor production at the LHC. The gluon distribution is determined with a fit to HERA data applying a unified BFKL-DGLAP approach, in which the non-linear evolution is described by the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. First we estimate bb̄ production at CDF and D0. Then, cross sections for heavy quark production at v...
